Assessment

What We Do:

  • Our assessments start with an in-depth intake process and interview to go over the medical and educational history of your child.  A review of prior assessments is also completed if necessary.  This interview allows for a more tailored assessment to your child's needs.
  • The evaluation itself consists of a battery of cognitive and academic standardized tests to help identify dyslexia and also to diagnose Specific Learning Disorder, if a child qualifies. A follow-up meeting with both parents is then scheduled to go over the assessment results and our recommendations for specific intervention and accommodations. Included is an in-depth evaluative report.
  • Our assessment process is intended to be diagnostic so that families can use these results with schools and other providers.  We also specialize in the co-occuring conditions that are common with dyslexia, such as anxiety, ADHD, depression, and adjustment challenges.

Kindergarten Screening

Our kindergarten screening is for children who are not yet in 1st grade. Its goal is to gather preliminary data prior to remediation to aid in later assessments and potential diagnoses.

Dyslexia assessment

The Dyslexia only panel includes a full cognitive and full academic evaluation, as well as other important screeners to help determine the proper diagnosis.

Dyslexia plus assessment

Dyslexia is often seen in conjunction with other co-morbid diagnoses such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, etc. The Dyslexia Plus panel includes testing for these other diagnoses to help get to the root cause of the challenges that the child faces.

PLEASE NOTE:

While our clinicians specialize in Dyslexia and ADHD and have significant assessment training in these areas, we are not psychologists; therefore, cognitive assessments will be limited to the purpose of comparing cognitive and academic ability as well as patterns of strengths and weaknesses and not used for any neuropsychological purposes. Referrals will be made when diagnoses are outside our scope of practice and as necessary.
